Shakespeare & the Lost Word

Is the Search for the Beloved Author akin to Freemasonry’s Search for the Lost Word of Truth?

FBRT Afternoon Seminar given by Peter Dawkins, with Mark Rylance

Sunday 18 March 2012

The Charing Cross Hotel, The Strand, London WC2N 5HX

In his tribute to Shakespeare in the First Folio, Ben Jonson addressed the author of the Shakespeare plays as his “beloved, The Author, Mr. William Shakespeare”. But who exactly is this beloved author? And why is the term “beloved” used?

There is a wealth of evidence to suggest that the Shakespeare name is the meaningful pseudonym of a secret author who arranged for himself to be masked by a living person bearing a suitable similar name (Will Shakspere). There is not only evidence that this was deliberately and carefully done but that the primary motive for this ‘veiling’ was in imitation of the veiling of truth in the mystery schools, such as Freemasonry – the purpose of such veiling providing an initiatic path to self-development and illumination.

The ultimate truth to be discovered in the mystery of life is Truth, the Author of all, also known as ‘The Word’. Whilst it remains undiscovered it is known as ‘The Lost Word’.

In the mysteries, as practised in the mystery schools, there are four principal veils to this truth, each one of which has to be recognised and drawn aside. The four veils hide four levels of truth. This appears to be the design of the Shakespeare Authorship mystery, just as it is the design of the Shakespeare plays, each of which can be understood and enjoyed at four different levels of interpretation and experience. Sacred or biblical writings are also designed this way. It is an ancient method, based on reality, to help us towards full enlightenment.

In this seminar by Peter Dawkins, assisted by Mark Rylance, some of the questions will be answered, some new questions posed, and help given in drawing aside the veils.
