Zoence and Feng Shui

Zoence is a philosophy developed from certain core truths recognised not just in the wisdom traditions of the West but in cultures all around the world, and which the Chinese developed under the name of Feng Shui.

For instance, Feng-Shui means ‘Wind-Water’. This imagery or symbolism is the same as that referred to in the Hebrew-Christian Bible as “the Spirit (Breath) of God moved upon the face of the Waters” (Genesis 1: 2). The Indian Vedas refer to this as Ananda-Chit, being the expression of Sat, the ‘I AM’ (Parabrahma).

“And God said, ‘Let there be Light,’ and there was Light; and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1: 3-4.)

The Holy Breath, bearing the Word (Wisdom) of God, lovingly vibrates the Waters of the Universe. The Waters (universal substance) respond by taking on form and becoming the Cosmos. This Cosmos, humming with sound, shining with light, is ‘Light’, the First-born or First Manifestation of the Unmanifest.

In this Light (known to the Greeks as Phanes or Eros) the drama of life takes place, in which manifold forms of life, like characters performing on the stage of the universe, appear, play their roles and depart, reabsorbed into the universal Light.

Zoence, like Feng-Shui, is a philosophy and science dealing with the very basics of life, the fundamental polarities of existence—e.g. spirit and matter, force and form, heaven and earth, mind and body, wisdom and intelligence, strife and friendship—and their harmonious resolution and relationships.

Zoence, like Feng-Shui, tries to understand this and help us each to contribute in the best ways possible to the manifestation of harmony, beauty and joy, as an expression of Light and fulfilment of Light's purpose.
